Congratulations, dear students!
Student days is one of the brightest periods in our life. It is time of changes and attainment of a new life experiences with its problems and discoveries, teenage loves, sessions and, of course, bright parties. Surely each of us from time to time, but with great nostalgia recalls this period of life because despite the fact that studies sometimes resembles nothing else like steeplechase, but all the “charm” of a student's life is compensated by positive emotions, memorable for the rest of our life.

On November the 17th is traditionally celebrated International Students' Day. But hardly people know that, despite the joy and courage, which are connected with this holiday, it has a bloody history and is associated with serious and tragic events in history. At its root was a demonstration organized by Prague students and teachers after the anniversary of the Czechoslovak state in Nazi-occupied Czech Republic. However, the demonstration was broken up by the occupiers as a result of which student Jan Opletal was shot and killed. Funeral of Jan grew into a protest, after which dozens of protesters were arrested. After that Nazis surrounded the student dormitories and arrested more than 1,200 students who later were imprisoned in a concentration camp. Nine activists were executed in prison without trial.
In memory of this tragic event and in honor of those killed in these days, three years later, in 1942, English students organized International meeting of activists in London who fought against Nazism where it was decided to celebrate this date as a Students’ Day.
Students’ Day in Ukraine has been celebrated since 1999 according to the Decree of the President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma.
