In order to relax it’s not necessarily to visit the cafes and clubs. Sometimes there is nothing better than to wander through the streets of parks, enjoy the spectacular panorama of the city and pay attention to historical sites that we often do not notice in the bustle of everyday life. Parks and squares of Kiev remain attractive for walks with friends and romantic rendezvous with your loved ones, because, as you know, "There is no bad weather," and this nature in the heart of the "concrete jungle" will help restore your peace of mind, or just create the right mood.

Today we offer you a selection of the most picturesque parks of Kyiv.

Shevchenko Park

Shevchenko Park is not just a monument of gardening and landscape architecture; it is Kyiv’s embodiment of everything beautiful. How so many gorgeous colours, sights and sounds can be packed into such a small area is beyond reason. The park is located on the corner of Volodymyrs’ka and Shevchenka bul’v., opposite Taras Shevchenko National University and, therefore, attracts scantily clad coeds by the dozens. For decades, this has been the prominent scene for chess enthusiasts, who reign over the park’s south-west corner. Verbal disputes and even scuffles between opponents are a common sight, as vodka and gambling are indispensable parts of the game. From the centre of the park, a solemn looking statue of Taras Shevchenko (the greatest of the classic Ukrainian literary figures) gazes down, like a stern yet loving father, on his hedonistic spawn. Admission is free

Mariinsky park

Park with the area of 10.7 hectares planned in landscape style. Cozy, shady, with old lindens, maples and chestnut trees, the park is a unique memo of landscape art of the past. Its name Mariinsky Park got due to palace of the same name, located some distance away. Mariinsky Palace was built in 1750-1755 as a temporary residence of Empress Elizabeth. On the territory of the Mariinsky park is one of the most unusual museums in Kiev - Water Museum, located in an old water tower. Its ingenious built exposition tells about the water cycle. Here you can, immersed into the ground, make a "journey" by continents: see how ice melts, geysers erupt, visit the cave with stalactites. In the museum you can even get into a real rain with thunder and be inside a huge bubble.
